Lt.Col(R) Mahmoodul Hassan Awan - 2011

Mahmoodul Hassan Awan, kit no. 711/Latif House joined Cadet College Petaro in 1966 and left the college in 1971 after completing his Intermediate.

He was born on 3 March 1953 and got married to Mrs. Rashda on 4 November 1980. They have 5 children - Asima, Madiha, Sana, Muhammad and Ahmad.

Mahmood suffered from cancer and after a battle of several months, he expired at CMH Rawalpindi on 3 May 2014. May Allah grant him Janntul Firdaus.

My memories of Mahmood go back to our Petaro days. He was in my house and he joined in the year I was in Matric. We always had a great relationship between us.

Mahmood was the Captain of the College Riding Team and the Latif House riding team. He was good at sports and was a member of the Latif House teams. He was also the President of the Biological Collections Society at Petaro during his last year.

Over the years, Mahmood pursued his higher education studies as well. He obtained his B.Sc. from the University of Balochistan in 1979, an M.A. from University of Karachi in 1987 and B.Ed. from Karachi University in 1989.

After leaving Petaro, Mahmood joined Pakistan Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. His achievements in the army included an instructional tenure at PMA Kakul, Assistant Adjutant General at GHQ, two foreign assignments, and command of an Air Defence regiment.

After retirement from the Army, Mahmood dedicated himself in the field of education. He held the position of Principal of Army Public Degree College at Sargodha, Principal of Army Public Degree College at Attock, Principal of Cadet College Sialkot, Principal ofMari Gas Higher Secondary School, and Project Director of Medical College/University Sargodha.

In 2011, he was chosen as the Principal / Project Director of Frontier Scouts Cadet College at Warsak.

I am truly honoured to have had Mahmood as a friend for these past 4 decades.
